Ezhattumukham (7 face of Rivers):

Quaint and serene Chalakudi river at Ezhattumugham (15 K.ms from Kochi airport) is a picture postcard come to life. The river gently flows around islets, boulders of all sizes and trees with mini waterfalls on the way. The scenery is enhanced by myriad shades of green. The smaller islets are the kingdoms of wild shrubs, trees, birds and squirrels. Where the chirping and warbling of birds and the faint fragrance of spices growing all around makes for a peaceful daybreak. As the name indicates is the confluence of seven rivers the beauty of this place is really enchanting. You can walk in the river through the small rocks and immerse yourself in small pools on the ways. Tree houses are available on rent for small groups. But the number of people in a tree house is very limited. Also, visitors enjoy the natural bath inside the river.

Athirappally Waterfalls: 

Bursting forth from the jungles of Sholayar, the Chalakudi River comes crashing down, plummeting 80 feet to form the dramatic Athirappally Falls – the waterfalls as spirited and noisy as the forests are dark and silent. The cool spray that covers a large area near the falls makes this area a scenic location. Film crews, both from the north and the south India, often camp in its precincts to exploit its raw appeal. Another picturesque Vazhachal Waterfalls is 5 Km away from Athirappilly & close to dense green forests.

Kodanad Elephant Training Center: 

Kodanad, set on the Southern banks of the Periyar River amid the beautiful high ranges near Perumbavoor, is one of the largest elephant training centres in Kerala. Earlier elephants captured from the Malayatoor forests (the forests in the East and North of Kodanad) were trained here. Since the introduction of a ban on elephant capture Kodanad has been reduced to a training centre. The famous Malayatoor Church is near Kodanad.

Today after a delicious breakfast have a scenic & sightseeing drive to 1800 Meters above sea level to stay in Munnar, which is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams – Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala. Mattupetty Dam: 

The Mattupetty lake and dam is a very beautiful picnic spot. The sprawling Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala lake are other attractions in the vicinity. Boating facilities like Speed Launch and slow speed motor boats are available on hire.

Kundala Lake: 

Kundala Lake is an artificial reservoir of a minor arch shaped dam huddled between the mountain ranges. It is about a 20 km drive from Munnar. Boating facilities available here.

Pothamedu: Pothamedu offers an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom plantations in Munnar. The rolling hills, the lush mountain and the breathtaking scenery here is ideal for trekking and long mountain walks.

Top Station:

This is 1880 meters above sea level & is about 40 km from Munnar. The panoramic view of the Western Ghats and the valley of Theni from Top station is simply breathtaking.

Echo Point: Echo Point is about 15 km from Munnar. Go there and scream as loud as you can, and wait for a while. You can hear your echo back!

Devikulam: 

This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing.

Chithirapuram: 

With its sleepy little cottages, bungalows, old playgrounds and courts, Chithirapuram still exudes an old world charm. Home of the Pallivasal Hydel Power Project, this hill town is also famous for its picturesque tea plantations.

Attukal: 

A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukal, located between Munnar and Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes. The place is also ideal for long treks.

Nyayamakad: 

Located between Munnar and Rajamala, Nyayamakad is a land of breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 meters. The enchanting surroundings makes an excellent picnic spot and trekking point.

Rajamalai (Part of Eravikulam National Park): 

Rajamalai is located at about 15 k.ms from Munnar.  This region is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragas hylocres). It was converted to a national park to provide a safe sanctuary for the endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr. The natural habitat of the Niligiri tahr ,Rajamala is 2695 Mts above sea level. Half the world’s population of the rare mountain goat or tahr a species becoming extinct is now found here.The total number of Niligiri Tahrs in Rajamala is estimated to be over 1300.

Tea Museum: 

This tea museum is first of its kind in India. The aim of this museum according to its founders is to showcase the growth of more-than-a-century-old tea plantations in this region. Anyone visiting this museum will get a clear picture of how backbreaking is tea processing really.

Sandalwood forest Marayur: 

Marayoor is located at around 42 k.ms north of Munna. And is famous for the natural sandalwood forest. Not only that, this place is said to be part of the ancient stone age civilization dated back to 10,000 B.C. Stone age paintings, rock edicts and dolmens found there vouch for this rich heritage.

Blossom Park: 

Blossom International Park is about 3 km away from Munnar town and it spreads over 16 acres. It is a peaceful location to enjoy a calm and relaxing nature walk admiring flowers and surrounding green hillside. The park offer many activities for tourists like boating, cycling, roller skating etc.

Lakkom Water Falls: 

This waterfall is about 25 k.ms from Munnar. Lakkom waterfalls are part of Eravikulam National Park.

Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary: 

Chinnar wildlife sanctuary is about 60 k.ms from Munnar. It is an ideal spot for trekking and enjoying wildlife closely. It is the habitat for endangered grizzled giant squirrel in India. Almost 34 species of mammals including panthers, spotted deer, elephants, tigers can be found here. It is also a bird watchers paradise. 245 species of birds live here!

Rice up with sun to have an early breakfast and awesome drive to Thekkady to visit Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary & surroundings. Check in to the pre-booked hotel. When you are ready a boating to Periyar lake is advised to see animals from their natural habitat.

The Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary: 

Lying close to the plantations, in the rich jungles of Periyar in Thekkady is one of the world’s most fascinating natural wildlife reserves – the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary.  Spread across 777 sq.km, of which 360 Sq.km is thick evergreen forest.Noted for its geomorphology, diversity of wildlife and scenic beauty, the Reserve attracts visitors from all over the world. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar adds to the charm of the park.  This is the only sanctuary in India where you can have the unique experience of viewing wildlife at close quarters from the safety of a boat on the lake. The greatest attraction of Periyar, however, are the herds of wild elephants that come down to play in the lake.

Today you are heading to Kumarakom after the breakfast from Thekkady for a 22 hours houseboat cruise to enjoy the serene backwaters and inland water villages. You enjoy the centuries old life of Inland waters villages like traditional fishing, coir making, duck farming, toddy tapping etc from the comfort of a houseboat with modern amenities. The towering ancient Rain Trees, the white-washed walls laden with crimson bougainvilleas, the musty old spice warehouses and the spice market at Mattancherry, unused yards smothered in vegetation, the antique shops on Jew’s street, the Dutch palace with Kerala murals, famous Chinese fishing nets, Jewish synagogues, St. Francis Church, Jain temple, Portuguese churches & British clubs, history is seeping through every brick and stone here ! Yes, history is not in books only. A Harbour Cruise in the evening is recommended to enjoy  the beauty of Queen of Arabian Sea’.
